چکیده

Encopresis or faecal soiling has been defined as an act of involuntary defecation which is not directly attributed to organic illness (Kanner, 1950). Encopresis or soiling may occur in children with normal intelligence, brain damaged children and psychotic children. It denotes an uncontrolled defecation of an emotional origin. Presently, there are few reports of successful treatment by means of behavioural therapy and operant conditioning (Edelman, 1971; Ferinden and Van Mandal, 1970 ; Pedrini and Pedrini, 1971). We are reporting the case of a child with encopresis whom we treated successfully with operant conditioning.

Increased Frequency of Encopresis in a Child Diagnosed With Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Encopresis After Atomoxetine Use: A Case Report.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is among the most frequently reported coexisting psychiatric conditions in children with encopresis. Some case reports state that atomoxetine-a selective presynaptic norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor-approved for treatment of ADHD is also effective in the treatment of coexisting encopresis. Contrasting those reports, here we present a case diagnos...

Operant reward learning in Aplysia: neuronal correlates and mechanisms.

Operant conditioning is a form of associative learning through which an animal learns about the consequences of its behavior. Here, we report an appetitive operant conditioning procedure in Aplysia that induces long-term memory. Biophysical changes that accompanied the memory were found in an identified neuron (cell B51) that is considered critical for the expression of behavior that was reward...

Self-injurious behavior in Rett syndrome: interactions between features of Rett syndrome and operant conditioning.

Operant and biological theories of the cause of self-injurious behavior (SIB) in people with a mental handicap are often viewed as mutually exclusive. In this single case study, interactions between features of Rett syndrome and operant conditioning as determinants of SIB are examined. Functional analysis by analog methodology indicated different functions for two forms of SIB shown by the subj...
